ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - CRU MAYOR #HipHopCaresAwards2014

"Searching for the one???? lookie over here  its the flavor of year ."....

Kabelo "Cru Mayor" Eddy vowed in 2013 that he will be one of the trophy holders at  the Hip Hop Cares Awards 2014. He wrote on facebook that he aspires to win an award and release his mixtape "Memory Box".
Slamming around features here and there with some of Burgersfort's greatest artists,Cru broke into the scene with the hand of Melodramatik on the #PUSHtoTheLimit track(Shout out to Kaytzo).
Cru Mayor has a parallel Cassper Nyovest rise without the AKA opponent glory. Before Hip Hop Cares 3 he had squabbles with a certain King Marvel which he totally trashed on stage, As if that was not enough as a token of success the rookie accumulated a music video by Jack Topera for his song Cru is back which is a rendition of 2pac is back by Rick Ross.

The dreaded scribe went on to impress the hip hop community with his lyrical coherence on his song Mr President and hung up on the wackness on BGF Movement. Cru is bubbling like sodas on a truck and definitely deserved the title ROOKIE OF THE YEAR 2014.

You only get to be the new kid on the block once ....... 2015 is coming.

Ab-Stun

Hailing from the misty mountains of Ga-mampuru , Sekhukhune born and raised Ab-stun made a decision to rap in his home language. The song is called Disoka Le Di peni , directly translated to 5 cents and 1 cents ,In metaphorical format it simply means money. Here the artist justifies why he should get money for his work. This is one the best Pedi rap tracks we have heard in a while ....Spread the link

Music Scene update : Hip Hop and Beyond

Every party or club you go to will likely jam CaraCara by K.O, After years of being in the shadows South African Hip Hop is finally taking flight.
The new trend seems to be mixing a kwaito song with catchy lyrics that will get people dancing , Early origins of this was when Tumi and Zubz released the Tz Deluxe tape which was a pure appreciation of kwaito music.
BlackLez followed suit with his Mdu remix of GibelaPhezKwendlu(Baba Ka Nomsa) on that Dont Be Scared joint. It wasnt long before Cassper did Doc shebeleza and around the same season CaraCara dropped. Duncan felt out so he remixed TsikiTsiki which has received luke warm reception.

Is hip hop really heading back to kwaito or is this just a phase ?
In other news , our own 50 cent , Motswako Originator Khuli Chana received his twitter verification , It was later followed by AKA's verification. The first rap artist to receive such verification in south africa was GingerBreadMan, Now we really wanna know how twitter decides who to verify if Tumi and Proverb still have normal Twitter accounts.
Speaking of twitter accounts ? between the arrows and spears of the Cassper AKA wars , Slikour got his twitter account hacked on 6th of June 2014. According to what little evidence we have , the @Slikour account was hacked and it was changed to @GingerRapper , with a white guy wearing Britain flagged clothing.

Drama i say , lots of it dished and severed. Singer Teepee was abducted a few weeks back , his car was found smashed windows and he rocked up in the AM all roughed up. @SeanPages confirmed that he is safe and sound and he will be pressing charges. Teepee are you sure you dont know these dudes ??? Hmmm.

So you dont have Dstv or you were in a remote place and could not watch the MTV MAMA Awards?? ...well  here is a list of the winners.

Uber brings Lulo Cafe to Burgersfort

They say in order to build a strong house , you must bring it right to the ground and start with the foundation

UberLifestyle was in the news a few months ago for changing their logo , there uproars about the simplicity of the logo and how it was not as attractive as the previous one( read story here) . Management of Uber hinted and warned that the logo was not a problem , they are focused on the product they will give you. One will agree that a lot of drinks have more attractive bottles than Coca Cola but Coke is still the leading brand.

All critics and skeptics are swallowing humble pie because the proof was really in the pudding. Sakkie & Friends Concepts (Pty) Ltd announced that they will be bringing Lulo Cafe on the 19th of April , it was like they are dreaming .One would have sworn they playing a bad joke on us .
When the line up was published heaven felt jealous. The legendary 404, Fish , Mafadi , Mr Deep Sounds Lolo himself were some the house angels chosen to lead the garrison before Lulo Cafe took to the decks . If you think that is too much to take in, The surprise performance by house prodigy Brazo wa Afrika took the crowd by storm.
The timelines on facebook were no longer about complaints, no one is talking about the logo anymore. They just have red ants in their socks about the service delivery by Uberlifestyle.
Sakkie said " i have no done anything yet , i have a lot more to achieve and a lot more artists to book , i am entertainment , I dont sell tickets for gigs , I sell lifestyle" .

Hip Hop Cares will be hosting their 3rd gig there on the 12th of July 2014 in amalgamation with Deep Sounds and Mic Rocker. Hip Hop Cares spokesperson Sheila Mmutle commented "Uber is on another level now , They have just taken house to a different standard , imagine if we came and dropped their standard with Hip Hop Cares? We need to upkeep the quality"

At the Hawaiian party on of the socialites was heard saying "this is sophisticated entertainment , its like i stepped into Jo'burg as soon as i walked into that gate"

Fletcher Mog- Tja Limpopo

If you came to Hip Hop Cares II- HipHopCaresAwards2013 you are familiar with this cat. Before handling mics he was rumored to have been a dancer but its the ever lasting question of whether he is a rapper that got him doing the art.

If you actually doubted his his talent and ability lets save you . He was nominated for a the category "song of the year" at the Limpopo Hip hop awards , he enjoys airplay on various stations like Emalahleni Fm ,Tubatse Fm  and Jozi Fm just mention a few. Fletcher is definitely leading the Pedi rap movement in the Burgersfort region .

At Hip Hop Cares II besides Mic Rocker he was the only artist who received an encore. He plans to release his album this year called TJA LIMPOPO which will feature various underground rappers such as Slabsta and Kwabena. How does someone get hate on a cat like this ??? Here is some music

King Kay - Tears - An analysis

The song starts out with a generic chorus which was built in with the beat ...the YHB(young hustler baby) tag was a good call . It displays some  form of musical intelligence from the guy

Opening lyrics

I really can't believe That I did it again. Now I'm sitting in my room With eyes full of tears. I need you in my life, Please dont walk away. I'm tired of being the man, Girl I wana be your man.

a clear indication of deep regret from the writer ...a good play of words "i am tired of being the man , i wanna be your man'  This is an indication that the writer suffers from multiple personalities. He is something else to impress the general public and probably the sweetest guy when he is with his girlfriend

Like a DNA test, Let me tell you the truth Girl I lied and I cheated yeah I broke your heart Dont wana play the blame
here is a simple simile which we clearly do not expect in love songs ...DNA test have some sort of accuracy which the writer uses to pour out genuine feelings ...genius of him

 Verse 2
Even though I hurt you You can't deny that I love you You know I do I mean look at all the things That we have been through When your daddy passed away I was there for you And your friends turned Against you I was there with you Baby you can't deny it I have always cared for you

hmm is it me alone or do i sense some form of desperateness from the writer in this regard ? He is actually black mailing the girl into taking him back . Now i dont know about you but this usually happens when you really messed up and cannot justify it . its called love

Baby girl I love you I would do anything Just to be with you And I am what I am Because of you

the above lines reassure us of the opening lines of verse two ...its actually a good way of keeping your in check with your topic .

Verse 3Who will I call when I need some booty call? Above all,
Personally i am not happy with the opening lines of the third verse , it becomes a simple question of can you call your lover for a booty call ? it doesnt seem concrete

He goes on to ask the girl multiple questions that show us the nature of this dream relationship ..its beautiful really . The hopes , the dreams , the activities .
this is probably young love at its best and is bound to make you feel nostalgic. I guess the setting here would be 15/16 year olds ??
He drops the bomb with a "where ever you are i hope you can hear me" . Its is common for people writing about people they will never see to use that line. Its not an appeal nor does it show hope ?? i feel the last two lines should have had better conviction and weight

Flow- 3/5
Beat- 5/5
Content- 4/5
Lyrical intelligence- 2/5
Articulation- 2/5
Overall- 5.5/10

Jay Electronica Feat JaYZ- WE MADE IT(Drake DISS)

DOWNLOAD FOR FREE HERE

Oh Drake, why did you ever cross Hov? Jay-Z is firing back at the Canadian rapper in a new song for dissing him in a Rolling Stone Interview back in February.

Jay-Z, 44, is letting Drake have it in a new track entitled “We Made It.” In the song Hove goes on to diss Drake by not even referring to him as a man. Drake managed to get under Jay’s skin by dissing Hove’s use of art references in his songs. We bet the “Too Much” rapper wished he’d kept those comments to himself.

Jay-Z Disses Drake In Retaliation For Canadian Rapper’s Disrespectful Remarks

On March 23, Jay-Z opened up about Drake’s recent Rolling Stone comments concerning the use of art references in a verse on Jay Electronica’s “We Made It” track.
“Sorry Mrs. Drizzy for so much art talk,” Jay Z raps on the track. “Silly me, rappin’ ’bout s**t that I really bought — while these rappers rap about guns that they ain’t shot — and a bunch of other silly s**t that they ain’t got.”
Go in Hove — go in!
Rihanna Should Step In & Mend The Feud Between Jay Z & Drake
Jay Z’s “Drizzy” reference stems from Drake’s trade mark alias, a name dropped several times during his interview. In that interview, Drake openly criticizes Jay Z’s references to art in his lyrics.

“It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references,” Drake says in the article. ”I would love to collect [art] at some point, but I think the whole Rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny.”

Jay-Z Disses Drake In New Track ‘We Made It.’

Prior to that, Drake was believed to have made a reference to Jay Z and Kanye West on “Im On One.”

“I’m just feelin’ like the throne is for the taking,” Drake raps on the track. ”Watch me take it.”
In its article, Rolling Stone notes that Drake’s line is likely a reference to Watch The Throne, a collaborative album made by Jay-Z and Kanye in 2011.

In the article, Drake admits that he wasn’t in good graces with Kanye and Jay at one point. ”It was a lack of communication paired with natural competitiveness,” Drake says in the piece. “But those two are gods to me.”

SPAZA HIP HOP BEEF

Ok Ok ....so i was going through my facebook timeline when i saw a status update with 56 comments and no likes and i just knew ..BEEF!!!!

i found an interesting streak of beef tracks which i jammed for the past two weeks and decided why not share it you know

The first track Ds hoe by Ivy ( download here). If you listen carefully it seems like this guy is tired of Muntu Jobela and he warns Muntu's crew to get away from him.

Muntu and friends replied with this track (Download here)  which sounded more like Friends and Muntu replying . To my surprise  Driemanskaap's DL had joined the beef on Muntu Jobela's team

Vegita who is notoriously known in the EC for killing emcees replied because a certain "Philly" was mentioned and he just hated it (Download here)

take note of how the same beat was used through out the beef , it was just sampled and changed ...

wow Mouthful isnt it ?? lol lets talk about it ...

Dizz Represents Burgersfort Nation wide

In the beginning of 2014 i embarked on a journey within myself. I wanted to walk into myself from the back, write genuine songs without thinking about who likes me , who likes my style and who will like the song i am about to write .
This resulted in me entering a nation wide competition hosted by Hip Hop Beats South Africa. They gave us a 4 weeks to work on a track with the beat they provided.
I finished the lyrics in 2 weeks , the first verse was edited like four times and the second  verse flowed to me as i was busy with 2 other songs i am featured on.

The only time i got to know and appreciate the kind of support i have was when the voting process began , i was taken aback by the relentless support i received from people i know and a couple of strangers.

Thank you to everyone who voted i see you !!!!!
When i was crowned King if Hip Hop Beats South Africa , i said softly to myself ..this one is for Burgersfort !!!!!!

Devour Ke Lenyora - "female emcee with large balls

Whenever we come across female rappers in South Africa , they always sounded like watered down versions of Nicki Minaj. All hope was lost when Merciless wonder , Nthabi, Bianca and Godessa disappeared from the scene.
We waited with baited breath till one day Kay-e's Bona Reyetsang Female Remix hit Tv . There she was , a thick chick , with a thick flow and a thick verse , DEVOUR. She went on to give the boys a run for their money on Siz n Scoop to a point all Sizwe Dhlomo could say was , "too dope , not even for a chick , she is dope "

Her first official offering Preludes(Download for free) was a masterpiece, A party track here and a lot of emotions to deal with. A few months later she released "The Climb" (download for free) which enjoyed the ohhhhs and ahhhhs of real Hip Hop heads as she killed a few emcees and declared her respect for Khanyi mavi (Driemanskaap sphume gugs chick).

Devour Ke Lenyora ahhhhh blessed us with more than just music ,Her songs came with video discographies(watch here), she shattered the silence earlier this year with the tracks vibes 21 and tell me something  then promised us that her long awaited project Vingar Lakes is coming .

Her fans kept tweeting her with feelings of betrayal until yesterday ....Devour is back with new material  and she is more mature , more concerned , more responsible and definitely iller than puppies.
What the Back to the city performer says "Wo-man, I swear I am The Man, double D cup nut sack hanging from my chest, yes"

UberLifestyle Relaunches

                                                                  "Uber's old logo"

UberLifestyle has been dubbed "the lauchpad of dreams" as some of the most notable changes in Burgersfort sprout from its pods. Notable names like Brazo wa Afrika and Chymamusique enjoyed the pillar reaction of the Uber experience and atmosphere during the wallowing times of their house careers. It wasnt long before this very intiative (#HipHopCares) borrowed a room for rappers under the roof of this adrenaline inducing hangout spot .

Uber's new logo

2013 was undoubtedly a good year for Burgersfort Hip Hop but the same cannot be written in the same paragraph for UberLifestyle. They had to fix liquor License issues towards the end of 2012 bringing their business to a halt leaving civilians aching for entertainment or should i say adequate entertainment. They jumped on the springboard in the first half of 2013 making competition sweat like the walls of jericho. It was their uniquely themed parties and sale of lifestyle not night clubbing that had people gushing through their gates. Upon the change of management in the second half , the coaches fielded a different breed of players with different goals in mind. The clientele totally changed and so did the events and the turn up, the once international dj ,comedy stars , birthday bash throwing uber was now a legend living on tongues

Its 2014 and Uber is running a marathon with a batten written "Uber e boile" loosely translated to UBER IS BACK. The campaign to restore Uber to what it was comes with a new logo that has sparked controversy on social networks. While others agree simple is the way to go , other patrons feel "too simple" is not appealing. Joey Grafix of Deeper Indulgence who is known for his graphic stripes said ".U are very much correct when u say the logo will grow on us but i get why these ppl are so disappointed. The way u talked about the new logo for the past couple of days put everyones expecations SKY HIGH.We were nt expecting smting which we will have to wait for it to grow on us,we wanted to be blown away right from the start."  In response to  Uber management's defence to the new logo, they maintained that the its not the logo but its what you do with the logo , furthermore all big companies such as coke, apple and nike have very simple logos that are relatable , which is what they trying to create.
Uber management made an analogy of a commercial house track which receives airplay , blows us away and disappears while a deep well orchestrated house song which grows on the listeners and stays on the market for years to come .

What your take on the new logo ? comment here or  comment on our facebook page

Kwesta speaks on 5FM(open letter)

On the 5th of February 2014 former Buttabing Entertainment come back kid Kwesta Mr cool now known as the self proclaimed King of african rap (DAKAR) took to twitter to express his view about 5fm and their choice of music towards a rainbow nation youth. He felt that 140 characters where not enough to express his views and wrote an official open letter , this is not a racial rant but rather a outcry from a music and arts perspective. You tell me what you think

Dear SABC,
This is an open letter which elaborates on some of the much publicised
remarks I have shared with hundreds of thousands of fellow young South
Africans about the prevailing notion which is shared by many of them that the
only National Youth Radio station is not meeting its mandate and not living
up to it's promise, detailed in the profile pictured below: I would like to know
what is being done about this…
THE BLACK YOUTH OF SOUTH AFRICA ALSO WANT THE POWER OF 5FM

On Wednesday the 5th of February I addressed a matter I've been grappling with for the
longest time... I echoed the thoughts of many people and engaged in, a now much
publicised, debate with members of the 5FM music committee who generally agreed that
things needed to change at5FM but also wanted it to be acknowledged that things have
changed. With that being said one thing that still hasn't changed is the notion that 5FM is
a so-called "white station" and as a public broadcasting platform that is regrettable and
unacceptable, considering what this country has been through and given the youth's
responsibility to de-racialise our country, as well seek to create a single national identity
living up to the promise of the rainbow nation, which is still a myth in my opinion for
various reasons.
What I can say though is that there are people within 5FM who are fighting our battle on
our behalf and doing their utmost to help deliver programming that is more inclusive and
representative of the youth as a whole but what disappoints me is the sense I get that
there is a unhealthy and seemingly malicious force that is resisting change and thus
denying 5FM to black masses. We can't deny the problems we have with race relations
and they stay largely unresolved. Waiting for transformation is not going to get us
anywhere if we all don't have our shoulders to the wheel in a pre-emptive to bring about
integration.
I'm trying to bridge the racial divide as far as my music is concerned by giving the
township perspective to an audience that was either raised to fear the hood and it's black
people and at the same time to those of us grappling with the inferiority complex that
comes with knowing that we’ll have to find our place in a "white man's" world. My feeling
is that 5FM could do a lot more to lend itself to this cause by bringing young people from
all walks of life together and that's why I took to twitter to address the elephant in room.
The problem with twitter though is that you have a 140 characters with which to bring
your point across to an audience that might not get the full scope of your argument and
what is actually a relevant contribution to on going public discourse aimed at resolving
issues that hold our society back but are ignored because over-time the rate at which
change is happening desensitises us and we end-up accepting because we give-up the
fight for the greater good, can be turned it to something else quite spectacularly. This is
why I wanted to qualify my remarks with a full statement so people don’t dismiss the
concerns as a self serving attack on an institution which I feel has the power to change
this country and help us realise our African dream. From the bottom of my heart I hope
that we can find the strength within ourselves to nationalise the minds of the youth and
achieve the common goal of rebuilding our nation free from the bondage of the racial
divide, which is one of the haunting remnants of our painful past. That responsibility falls
squarely on the shoulders of our generation. There isn’t a nobler cause to serve and
together we need to get to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. To all the young
people of this country I say if we are honest with ourselves and critical of our shortcoming
then this change that we all want is not only possible but also it is with reach, in our
lifetime.
I would hate this to end up being miss-characterised as a misguided rant and I hope you
see the sincerity of my impassioned plea for the National Broadcaster to meet its mandate
specifically where youth radio programming is concerned. What I was aiming to do was to
show that as the only national youth radio station 5FM has an obligation to deliver radio
programming that "informs, educates, entertains and supports the public at large." The
public at large in this case means the masses, 79% of whom are black and generally of the
opinion that 5FM is a "white" radio station. It cannot be accepted that such a perception is
shared by the overwhelming majority of our young people, thus rendering the only youth
centred mass media platform an institution that effectively alienates itself from the
majority of our population because it doesn't represent the broader youth culture
adequately...
Where urban Hip-hop is concerned there is obvious disconnect with the public at large
because the play listing does not reflect what most young people are listening to for
various reasons and this results in a glaring colour divide that doesn’t sit well with me.
The truth is that is one of the many ways that our social disunity manifests itself. Black
and white people in South Africa generally lead parallel lives and there aren't enough
points of intersection. When the World Cup is over too many of us run back to our old
ways because that's what we know and are confortable with, unfortunately. You see it on
school playgrounds, university lawns the office cafeteria and anywhere else you look. The
fact that we are so divided is clear in our musical taste with few exceptions and this is why
the music that is not being played on 5FM has us black artists feeling overlooked even
though we represent to majority of the youth. What we'd like is some more representation
on this youth platform and the brand perception to change from what it currently is to
what it should be and that is the voice of South Africa Youth. I feel that if research on
tastes of the youth at large were done it would show that 5FM is inadvertently
misrepresenting the young people of South Africa to a certain extent and if this can be
addressed as a matter of urgency we’ll all bare witness to the true "Power of 5" as a
platform that has the free youth dancing to the same beat.
In my opinion the music committee does not consist of enough people who are passionate
about the advancement of our booming street culture and/or that have intimate
knowledge of the taste, styles and sounds growing in prominence and this deficiency
cripples 5FM which is the market leader in youth media but in this regard they lagging
behind and out of touch. What pains me is that this very same 5FM is very quick to
respond where there are white faces involved, where as Teargas is overlooked but a
Bittereinde will come from nowhere with a chart-topping hit that's not resonant with what's
really happening on the streets at large. To this I take exception because they all should
have a place on 5 because that is the variety we need to show off that famed diversity that
we sell our country on. I'll make an example with Jack Parow who released "Blou Bek,"
the first single off his new double album. It's has been play listed and I can almost
guarantee it will be making its way up the chart in the coming weeks while on the other
hand 5FM has only recently play listed iFani's Milli which has been the most played South
African Hip-hop track in the country for months now in what can only be described as a
delayed reaction to what the music loving youth are responding to. I doubt it'll make the
Top 40 chart but I guess it should be commended that iFani was not completely
overlooked right? I for one am not satisfied with this status quo and anyone with any
knowledge of what is happening on the streets would agree that they are simply being
ignored by our youth station. I know from personal experience that when Boomshakalaka
had already reached it's peak on various radio stations and long become the most
downloaded rap track in the country I still had to carry out the research myself and collate
data to prove to the music committee that the song was worth playing even though as I
was told that there was too much vernacular in the lyrics for the "5FM listener" to which I
responded so Afrikaans must be the only African language that is palatable to the "5FM
listener" because at the same time Jack Parow’s song was getting enviable airplay,
unjustly so considering how I was being snubbed, which begs the question who is this 5FM
listener? Of the things the 5FM listener could be is it thus inconceivable that he/she could
possibly be a young South African like me, from the hood like and black like me, amongst
other things? In the end I didn't give up and Boomshakalaka made the play list eventually
thanks to the people in the music committee who had to lobby for it... Although grateful I
was unhappy with the lengths I had to go to, to have my song played and I never got to
get over what I was subjected to because it persists to this day which prompted a change
in my attitude towards 5FM. I don't even sample them with the same singles that I send
to other radio stations hence I released High On Life and shot a video for it purely because
I knew Thul' Ujayive stood no change of playing on 5FM but when this effort proved to be
unsuccessful and I asked why I was told it wasn't catchy enough something I know is not
true because I have crowd tested my singles months before I released them and this just
showed me that the people who say that are not at my shows when people are singing
along to every word, they don't follow the comments on social media where people are
quoting my lyrics and evidently the young people my music appeals to are not the desired
5FM listener. I guess I just don’t get the message.
I’ve been thinking to myself for months now: why is it that I have to prove that my music
is popular by performing to thousands of responsive young people around the country and
spend thousands of Rands on music videos before my songs can break onto on 5FM's play
list when, they are supposed to be a "new music" station and introduce new sounds to
their listeners? I have no problem with going the extra mile for myself but when it's not
only me who is left dumb founded when considering what exactly it is that 5FM wants
knowing how much work artists like iFani, L-Tido, BlackLez and the likes are putting into
their craft I thought maybe it's time I speak on our behalf and show 5FM that we have a
significant following that are not happy with not hearing enough of our music on the only
national youth station.
On Wednesday morning I saw Cassper Nyovest tweeting about a struggle I know all too
well... How to get his song play listed on 5FM? His song, which has dance-floors filled
from Mafikeng to Cape Town and I thought maybe if I create enough noise around it
maybe someone, would take notice. I saw history repeating itself and realised that we
generally share the sentiment that 5FM doesn't acknowledge the work we're putting in,
outright. I addressed the facts and painted the true picture of what we experience and
people contributed their own experiences, which were all the same.
I felt that maybe if I could rally up my followers, who are always vocal about our common
interests, then maybe the forces of resistance within 5FM would have no choice but to
respond to the calls of our people. Later that night Cassper Nyovest's song was played on
5FM for the first time and I went to bed happier. What happened the next evening (6
February 2014) was completely unexpected. V-Entertainment covered the debate we had
on twitter and spoke to Cathrine Grenfell who was the one person who I know for sure was
instrumental in my singles Pump It & Flava getting play listed when my debut album came
out some 4-years ago. I'll be the first to admit that things at 5FM have changed a lot but
at the same-time the whole world has changed and it has changed faster than 5FM has. I
feel that if the music committee was in touch with the broader youth and was just as
passionate about South African Hip-hop as they are about indie-rock & EDM which
dominate the play list and chart unfairly so then they’d attract a wider audience...
The only other SABC youth radio station is TruFM in Bisho and it doesn't even have
coverage in the whole of the Eastern Cape. Metro FM is not a youth station, Ukhozi FM and
the likes are not youth stations either so as far as the SABC is concerned all we have is
5FM and although it's a commercial station it still needs to meet the mandate. 5FM can
no-longer be characterised as a “white station" that plays music for "white people & socalled
coconuts." As the only national YOUTH radio station it needs to be cognisant of it's
obligations to the youth of South Africa as a whole and play it's part in social integration
by fairly representing the views of the youth and serving to break the racial divide by
making more of an effort to reach out to the majority of young black people because they
have been largely overlooked and robbed of an inclusive platform that represents their
interests as well as those of other youth groups in an effort to create a more unified
national identity amongst the youth. We're almost 20-years into democracy and although
there's noticeable change, right now the Black Youth of South Africa want & need the
Power of 5FM but we’re left out in the cold and I just feel like it’s "either they don't know,
don't show, or don't care about what's going on in the hood…"
For these I reasons I can say that what is clear is that 5FM is failing to live up to it's brand
promise which is detailed in the profile pictured below, by marginalising the majority of our
diverse youth culture and although there are strides being made
toward inclusive programming there is not enough progress and this must change!

#hiphopcaresII - feedback

On the 21st of December 2013 at Uber LifeStyle Longthill , Hip-hop cares took to the streets to try and save the Christmas spirit using nothing but music

The venue started filling up at 8pm as the guests of honor were slightly delayed , but that didn’t deter the magnificent congregation at Uber Lifestyle who waited with baited breath for the show to start.

The show was opened by a Humanitarian Honorary award given to the C.E.O of Phihlelelo Bontji Trading Mercy Madire for their contribution to Hip Hop Cares followed by a curtain raising performance from Rap Sharks. Kaytzo followed suit with a thrilling performance. Lil Chief re-adjusted his crown on the mic while Rural Motivation did more than motivate the crowd, they sent them wailing in excitement. A guest appearance by Mr Universtity of Limpopo , Sly mo had the crowd dancing
Amongst other performers there was Slabsta, TIC ,HSP, and Fletcher. Mic Rocker closed the show with a fire works on stage , Literally.

The real attraction of the show were the First Hip Hop Awards in Burgersfort, THE HIP HOP CARES AWARDS: Song of the year was scooped by T.i.c, Producer of the year was a title fit for Jay Axe while Hustlers Ambition was awarded to MeloDramatik . Crew of the year was snatched by H.s.p while Lil Chief was throned with the Infinite Lyricist award. Humanitarian Honorary awards were also given to: Ruth Makena , Sheila Mmutle, Joe Mamogobo , Uberlifestyle C.e.o’s ( Daddy boy & Freddy) , Cb stores Burgersfort while Steelburger/lydenburg News”s award was reserved to be handed over to the editor personally by Hip Hop Cares founder Mandisi “Dizz” Kekana

“The Humanitarian honorary awards’ purpose is to personally thank everyone who made the Hip Hop Cares road easy for me” kekana added

The event was a huge success as the team was able to donate to Bophelong Home based care center at Ga- Mampuru, Mahubahuba at Bothashoek was also a selected beneficiary . Miss Greater Tubatse Municipality Kgaugelo Malatji was given a chance to benefit a charity of her choice and she selected “derde gelukke” at riba cross . All the charities received clothes and food parcels.

The Christmas magic really kicked in when Dizz Kekana , former Miss Limpopo Sheila Mmutle , Miss GTM Kgaugelo Malatji and Mpho Nkosi took to Dilokong hospital on Christmas morning and delivered birthday gifts to Christmas New borns. The nurses and moms were delighted to see the youth of Tubatse standing and doing something , This was also encouraged by Dr OGWU

I did other donations on a more personal level to families in distress which I don’t want to publicize . The next Hip Hop Cares event is coming in June/July , we will “wrap winter” said Kekana before he chuckled .

I would to thank all my sponsors Uberlifestyle, Invasion, CB wear Stores , Phihlelelo Bontji Trading , Deep sounds , Soul depth and Steelburger/Lydenburg news for the media support

the biggest shout out goes to my crew Mic Rocker for administrating Hip Hop Cares as a whole , if it wasn’t for the efforts of Czar, Mo2, Elle and Mpho Nkosi , I would have crushed under the pressure.

The youth of burgersfort has actively taken part in community responsibility, we have proved it and will continue to prove it .
Should one want to join hands with us for Hip Hop Cares in June/july , please contact me on 071 358 8008 or email Dizz.kekana@gmail.com
Together we stand divided we fall, I would be dammed if poverty conquers he concluded
